Start by combining all your contemplation assignments into one file including the question you addressed in each class.2. Read over what you wrote and see if you agree, disagree or want to elaborate on what you wrote originally. What has changed in your thinking? What do you want to know more about? The Introduction should be approximately 500 words.3. Write a Conclusion to the term paper, summarizing what was most important to you in the course. Why was that important? Assignment 6
In my opinion, reproach (reflection) is very important to awake mind and
compassion. Reflection is to rethink what has been done and what has been
said, and to find good experiences from it. This ability of reflection is very
important and accelerates the growth of a person, also this is the best way to
Inspire people’s compassion. Through reflection, we will be more rational,
and we will be able to find solutions instead of watching fears. Also, we will
control our emotions more and more. From then on, we will be more calm
and confident. In the class note I find “be gentle and inquisitive with yourself.
Reproach in this sense is being an honest friend to oneself”. The meaning of
this sentence is that what we really know about ourselves is ourselves. By way
of reproach we can find the best way to face some bad things. Although
sometimes we make mistakes but reproach will help us avoid making the
same mistakes.
In the class, I asked my partner a question which is do you think reproach
ourself often will impact our mood? She thinks doing reflection will let us
recognize our problems and reflection does not affect the mood. I agree with
her point and I think through the cultivation of reflective ability, we will be
more self-disciplined and we will find where we need to improve. Also my
partner asked me a question, which is why it is important we should have a
clear mind and a calm heart? In my opinion, have a clear mind and a calm
heart will help us find the key to solving the problem also have a calm heart
will help us avoid external interference. My partner agrees with me and she
think has a clear mind and a calm heart can let us face suffering in the right
way.
Assignment 8
In my opinion, this contrmplation is still useful in the modern world. Emptiness is a viewpoint
that traditional values and beliefs are unfounded and that existence is senseless and useless. In
China, Buddhists think emptiness is very hard to understand the real meaning. We only put down
all our sense of thinking to go into the emptiness. Also, the emptiness is very important part of
Heart Sutra. From my points of views, emptiness insight into why we suffer. When we are
suffering, we think it is real, fixed and exist by ego. It is only when we find out this illusion and
open ourselves. Howevery, We will find independent with the others and nature, and we will
relax to compassion.
When we see the emptiness of suffering, our compassion is not only for
whom we like. Sometimes, when we go to help a person but don’t get the positive response we
want, and then we will have bad emotions. But emptiness will help us and we will think positively.
Also, in the modern world if someone have bodhicitta that will very good. Bodhichitta is also
equated, in part; with compassion and our ability to feel the pain that we share with others.
Howevery a compassionate act does not look for a reward in return. It is an offering from the
heart. Compassionate actions have enriched and fulfilled my heart. Also I learn something form
class note, when I read this sentence “Since there is no one way that is always and absolutely the
most effective way to communicate, all cultures capture their best wisdom in stories that evoke
understanding of absolute and relative, compassion, and courage”. I feel Bodhicitta, as awakening
mind, is the intention to awaken to life in order to help others awaken to life. It is not simply a
feeling or an emotion or a sentiment.
Also my partner ask me a question which is do you think we should help people who without
compassion? I think everyone should be equal; we should help anyone no matter what kind of
personality he is. My partner agrees with me and she think helping others should be selfless.
Then I asked my partner a question, which is what are the benefits if someone has bodhicitta? I
think having a Bodhi heart can makes it easier for us to live and help others without paying back
will let us feel happy in mordel world. My partner agree with my point and she think having a
bodhi heart will make us more willing to help people who are suffering.
Assignment 3
In my opinion, dreams are the product of the subconscious and the influence
of external life stimuli. Usually something we don’t dare to say what we are
buried in the depths of our hearts. In the dreams, we can be free and bold.
Because of the dreams, no matter how embarrassing, as long as you don’t tell
people, others will never know. Sometimes our dreams are not related to real
life. For example, in a dream, you got punched. It may be terrible and scary at
the time, but it will disappear after you waking up. Also we can dreams, even
we are not sleeping. In my personal experience, this situation often occurs.
For example, when I sit down and take a break, some fragments appear in my
brain. Usually these fragments are what I am done before. However, I think
this is also a kind of reflection.
In the class, I discussed this problem with my partner. At first we could not
understand this problem, after we talk with professor we found some views,
and my partner think everything that happens at this moment can actually be
interpreted as a kind of dream. When I first listened to this, I felt very
confused but when I back home and try to think this deeply i found she is
right. In my opinion, we cannot explain that dreams only happen when we
sleep and from class note I found this sentence, which is “as we practice
meditation our experience becomes more and more vivid, but at the same
time more and more transparent like a dream we are waking from.” I think
when we meditate, we are in a state of waking but we can feel it we are in a
dream. Then I asked my partner a question which is why do we dream of
something weird? I think dreams are also signals transmitted by the human
brain. If you are very depressed today, your dream is definitely have some
negative emotions. On other hand if your very happy today, also your dream
wil very positive. My partner agrees with my point and she think dream is
actually a kind of feedback to yourself. Usually We can see the true self in our
dreams.
