Working Outline for Writing Project 4
Working Title: Increased Job inequalities and the government seems not to care
Thesis Statement: Despite the many people who believe that our government has no role to
play in controlling job inequality, the government has enhanced the growth of job inequalities
and stagnation of wages and its efforts to address the issue have not been adequately enforced.
Introductory Rationale:
Job inequalities have been a major not only affecting America but the rest of the world
since the industrial revolution. Job inequality is the unfair treatment of the individuals which is
based on one’s sexuality, gender, accent, race, place of origin, skin colour or even body weight at
the workplace. Discrimination is portrayed in hiring, laying off employees, compensation,
insurance or even promotions. For example can is not promoted because of his/ her gender, race
or place of origin even though he/she deserves the promotion. This research will mainly focus on
broader aspects of gender inequality. I will look at the unequal distribution of wages and
stagnation of the minimum wage. I will also look at how the issue of inequality has affected
economic growth and how the government has failed in addressing the problem.
Heller 2
Supporting Claims with Evidence:
•
The minority groups and immigrants living in the U.S have great significance to the
American economy. They pay their taxes and provide labour to the market. However,
what these people receive as compensation is unfair.
o Garcia’s article Imagine a day without a Mexican, talks about the revenue
generated by marginalised groups in the United States
o The report also argues that these people should be given active labour and
retained in the country.
o It also includes what these people obtain as social and medical insurance.
o Faith’s article expresses how lawmakers and lobbyists need to call for the
enactment of equal pay legislation to resolve the existing wage gaps in the
country as women of Indiana are paid less for their services compare to the
males.
•
Discrimination due to the colour of skin is still a significant issue in the country that
needs to be addressed.
o Quillian’s article Hiring Discrimination Against Black Americans Has not
Declined in 25 Years illustrates how race is one of the major aspects in
which discrimination is portrayed.
o Black Americans and Latinos are the most affected.
•
The government has also played a significant role in enhancing job inequalities through
policies and rules that do not favour the interests of the minority groups such as labour
market policies and various business practices. Besides the participation, the government
Heller 3
has also done a little to address the issue which is affecting many Americans; especially
the middle class and minority groups.
o Mishel’s article Causes of wage stagnation shows that stagnant wages and
increased inequality also affect the middle class.
o The article also shows that the cause of the problem is deliberate policy
choices made on behalf of the people by the political leaders who hold power
and wealth.
o Another cause of the stagnation is the abandonment of full employment
because of the fear that low unemployment rates would result in increased
inflation.
o Lois’s article also shows that wage stagnation has become a national
economic problem as the government has failed to control the imbalanced
market power, untapped workforce, and outsourcing from other countries.
o Another reason for the wage stagnation is that addressed by Perry’s article.
Ten reasons economists object to the minimum wage. Economists who have a
considerable influence on the government believe that increasing compeations
will result in layoffs or slower hiring because employers will invest in
automated technology rather than human resources.
Counter Argument:
Many Americans still believe that the government has no role to play in addressing job
inequalities. They also think that the government has not played any role in the growth of
discrimination. They argue that discrimination and injustice as the place of work is an issue that
is supposed to be addressed by the organisation/company and not the government. The rules and
Heller 4
regulations of the company should give guidelines on discrimination and the consequences of
breaking the rules.
Concluding Rationale:
Our leadership has a huge responsibility to play in the fight against inequalities at the
workplace. The government needs to formulate policies and regulations that govern the needs
and interests of the marginalised and minority groups mainly affected by discrimination. It also
needs to come up with ways to increase the wages and compensation of the middle class and
minorities and at the same time avoid a condition where the employers would shift from human
labor to artificial intelligence.

Increased Job inequalities and the government seems not to care
Purpose Statement
Job inequality and other forms of inequalities are on the rise. This issue of job inequality
is technically attributed to various important factors that involve incomes, earnings, and
employment opportunities. In addition, job inequality is included in dimensions such as power
and occupations. Inequality at the workplace could be attributed to many differences such as
race, gender, age, or sexual orientation among others. Despite the effort to socially advance and
raise job equality in the employment sector, there are still some significant cases of job
inequalities when it comes to men and women, races, and religions among other factors of which
all are mostly attributed to government’s lack of actions. In cases involving the determination of
occupation and wage scales, the inequalities of men and women, different races, social
background, and religious faith aspects are evident as driving factors that can be controlled but
little has been done about it. This has also been attributed to primary persistence of established
duties as well as the responsibilities of women and men in the society. However, despite the
many people who believe that our government has no role to play in controlling job inequality,
the government has enhanced the growth of job inequalities and stagnation of wages and its
efforts to address the issue have not been adequately enforced. This draft is based on the United
States labor market. It touches on all working individuals and government agencies.
The Government is not doing much to end job inequality
Job inequalities have been a major problem not only affecting America but also the rest
of the world since the industrial revolution. Job inequality is the unfair treatment of the
individuals, which is based on one’s sexuality, gender, and accent, and race, place of origin, skin
colour or even body weight at the workplace. Discrimination is portrayed in hiring, laying off
employees, compensation, insurance or even promotions. For example, someone is not promoted
because of his/ her gender, race or place of origin even though he/she deserves the promotion.
This research will mainly focus on broader aspects of gender inequality. I will look at the
unequal distribution of wages and stagnation of the minimum wage. I will also look at how the
issue of inequality has affected economic growth and how the government has failed in
addressing the problem.
Theories that have tried to defend the presence of these social disparities as contributed
by social disparities include the materialist model. This concept uses cultural data of both
genders in society. It explains how people are tied to the economic structures that exist in
societies despite the existence of social, racial, and religious differences. These concepts mainly
accentuate on control and dissemination of the treasured resources in the community. This
concept points out that woman is known for the roles of house and becoming mothers and wife.
Even yet, this is quite important to the community, the women are devalued and denied the most
highly valued public resources
Heller 2
This concept points out that women are often directed to the works of their family while
men are focused on trading as well as on market place. When these women enter labor markets,
they are focused on low compensating jobs. Moreover, most of the women in such cases find
employment and join the labor market expecting equal treatment. Things turn out against their
expectations and such, they tend to quit more often compared to men. The vast majority end up
becoming homemakers or simply care for their children as they handle other domestic tasks
considered to suit women. Historically, women had less education as compared to men. It still
appears shocking to find their skills and capabilities still underestimated or overlooked by
managers at the work place. For them, taking over complex or more demanding roles is almost
impossible.
Conventionally, there was a type of chores founded on domestic and communal spheres.
This was more constraining to women than men were. This scope was connected to various
activities, for example, the property tenure, power, and status. Men were assigned the most
powerful positions and tasks while women perceived as if their only purpose is reproduction and
taking care of the family. As such, their activities were mainly tied to domestic chores. Men in
these cases were unconstrained from domestic activates, and as such, their obligations were
considered from an economic perspective since they are highly treasured human resources. From
their societal status, men had the ultimate power to govern resources.
From supporting claims on inequality, the minority groups and immigrants living in the
U.S have great significance to the American economy. They pay their taxes and provide labour
to the market. However, what these people receive as compensation is unfair. It is quite difficult
for them to get the same benefits and compensations as their White colleagues. Garcia’s article
Imagine a day without a Mexican, talks about the revenue generated by marginalised groups in
the United States. The government is in return doing nothing to appreciate the efforts and
contributions of these productive immigrants. Garcia argues that these people should be given
active labour and retained in the country. He also specifies what these people obtain as social and
medical insurance, which is completely unfair. Faith, in her work, tries to express how
lawmakers and lobbyists need to call for the enactment of equal pay legislation to resolve the
existing wage gaps in the country as women of Indiana are paid less for their services compare to
the males.
The government is also doing nothing about social and economic discrimination due to
the colour of skin is still a significant issue in the country that needs to be addressed. According
to Quillian’s article, Hiring Discrimination against Black Americans Has not declined in 25
Years one can understand how race is one of the major aspects in which discrimination is
portrayed. In this regard, Black Americans and Latinos are the most affected.
Instead of protecting all people to secure equal opportunities, the government has instead
played a significant role in enhancing job inequalities through policies and rules that do not
favour the interests of the minority groups such as labour market policies and various business
practices. Besides the participation, the government has also done a little to address the issue,
which is affecting many Americans; especially the middle class and minority groups.
Mishel’s article Causes of wage stagnation shows that stagnant wages and increased
inequality also affect the middle class. This implies that the situation favors the rich and those in
power. The article also shows that the cause of the problem is deliberate policy choices made on
behalf of the people by the political leaders who hold power and wealth. This is backed by yet
another cause of the stagnation, which is the abandonment of full employment because of the
fear that low unemployment rates would result in increased inflation. According to an article by
Heller 3
Lois, wage stagnation has become a national economic problem as the government has failed to
control the imbalanced market power, untapped workforce, and outsourcing from other
countries. Additionally, wage stagnation results from the fact that people are not viewed from
what they can do but rather by who they are. Economists who have a considerable influence on
the government believe that increasing compeations will result in layoffs or slower hiring
because employers will invest in automated technology rather than human resources.
Many Americans still believe that the government has no role to play in addressing job
inequalities. They also think that the government has not played any role in the growth of
discrimination. They argue that discrimination and injustice as the place of work is an issue that
is supposed to be addressed by the organisation/company and not the government. The rules and
regulations of the company should give guidelines on discrimination and the consequences of
breaking the rules.
In conclusion, our leadership has a huge responsibility to play in the fight against
inequalities at the workplace. The government needs to formulate policies and regulations that
govern the needs and interests of the marginalised and minority groups mainly affected by
discrimination. It also needs to come up with ways to increase the wages and compensation of
the middle class and minorities and at the same time avoid a condition where the employers
would shift from human labor to artificial intelligence.

For the reviews that I received from both the instructor and from one peer, I did not see
advices so that I can revise for my final draft of this argumentative essay. If that is the case, then
I can only assume that my first draft of the essay has few mistakes; therefore, I only need to
worry about minor mistakes and add more detailed information to the essay if necessary to
further strengthen my stance. For most of the parts, I am using my own judgments to fix minor
mistakes such as sentence structures, and subject and verb agreement, where I struggle the most
in most of my writings. I found a few of these and quickly fixed the problems so that the essay
can be smoother. Also, in the paragraph where I talk about Tunisia, Egypt, and Libya as the
countries that can set examples for Vietnam to follow, I have added more detailed information
that talk about Tunisia and Egypt in the final draft. Tunisia and Egypt are only mentioned in one
of the topic sentences of the paragraph and no information were provided for the events that took
place in these two countries in the supporting sentences of the first draft. So it makes sense to do
more research regarding the protests that took place in Tunisia and Egypt, and these definitely
help support and strengthen my essay further.
COMMUNIST VIETNAM NEEDS DEMOCRACY

Communist Vietnam Needs Democracy
Communism has been governing the country of Vietnam for forty years. Through these
years, the party promised the Vietnamese people prosperity under this theoretical system that
gave false hope and propaganda in reality. Instead the citizens are without freedom to voice their
opinions and are suffering due to a corrupt government. For forty years, communism was given
the chance to build or maintain Vietnam in a stable condition, both on the economic and social
level. Instead, as a former Vietnamese citizen, I witnessed Vietnam in a worse condition as each
time I visited the country. Because democracy has proven to be a better and efficient system in
many countries, it is time for communism to end and democracy to be introduced in Vietnam, so
that the current Vietnamese citizens and former citizens can build a better Vietnam.
The biggest concern right now in Vietnam is having to deal with communist China over
land disputes. This dispute is due to China wanting to take over the islands of oil rigs off the
coast of Vietnam. Since Vietnam is seen as the little brother compared to China, and China is
bullying Vietnam, so that “Sixty-one distinguished members of the ruling Communist Party have
urged their top leadership to embrace democratic reforms and stand up to…China” (Finney,
2014). Also, in an open letter to the Vietnam Communist Party’s (VCP) Central Committee, the
former senior government officials and the Vietnamese ambassador to China said they also
wanted the change (Finney). Currently, there are Vietnamese citizens (supported by the
Vietnamese Americans) who formed community-based organizations called political civil
society within Vietnam that challenge and take a stance against the Vietnam Communist Party
(Thayer, 2009). Because China is taking over the islands of Vietnam, and Vietnam is helpless to
do anything about it, the Vietnamese are protesting against both the Vietnamese and Chinese
governments (Finney). With this amount of high and reasonable pressures from the citizens and

even official members within the VCP, it makes sense for Vietnam to become pro-democracy,
since the big older brother China with the same communist agenda is now Vietnam’s worst
enemy. It also makes sense for Vietnam to head into this direction since currently the U.S. is the
