riting assignment 7 – FINAL WIKI – due by midnight on
In this final assignment, you will bring together what you have learned about writing in
this class (including how to write about the connection between brain and behavior in own
words and using primary and secondary sources) to write a mini encyclopedia
entry about brain and behavior on your own wiki page. You will use the research topic that
you chose for Writing Assignment 6 (CRAAP TEST) because you will have already
found some interesting information that you know is reliable.
Acceptable sources for your wiki
1) Reliable website (evaluated using the CRAAP test) – look for .org and .gov in
particular. Remember .com means it is a commercial website. Remember that you
ideally want an expert to be writing the article – be critical about who has expertise in
this area.
2) Reliable secondary sources (these are preferred by Wikipedia)

Reviews published in scholarly journals – these are great!
Reviews published in highly reputable newspapers like The New York Times or magazines like Scientific
American
Textbook (reference in full including page numbers)- please use Kalat if you are going to use a textbook otherwise
you will need to scan and upload the relevant page(s) from another textbook into a single pdf and provide a clickable
link. YOU DO NOT NEED TO HAVE CLICKABLE LINKS FOR KALAT BUT YOU DO NEED TO
NUMBER THE REFERENCE(S) AND PROVIDE THE SPECIFIC PAGE NUMBER(S) FOR EACH ONE
IN THE REFERENCE LIST. For example, citation 1 might be Kalat pp. 12-13 and citation 2 Kalat p.56 etc – each
of these will be in the reference list separately. Make sure that you use full APA citations in the reference section
(unlike the way I have here).
You should model your wiki (in Blackboard) on a short Wikipedia entry. I have posted a
MODEL WIKI on Blackboard for you to look at. Your wiki should be between 500 and
1000 words (excluding references). You will need to provide citations for the information
that you provide. Make sure that you write using your own words and DO NOT QUOTE! Do not
include your opinion or ask for other people’s opinion. This entry should
provide information in a neutral way. Make sure that your article is mostly about the brain/nervous
system or other biological factors such as genes (see attached rubrics).
If you choose to work alone:
Please provide at least 3 sources to back up what you are saying (not including your textbook). Do not cite
anything that you have not read. All sources (apart from pages in Kalat) should be accessible via clickable
links. When you create any link please make it a number. So the first citation/link will be [1] and the second one will
be [2] etc. Please provide a numbered list of your references (including any websites) in APA format at the end of
the wiki. You may not be familiar with citing websites and newspapers/magazines so be sure to use this
APA resource from the library for your reference list. I suggest that you create the document first in word with
numbered references (but no hyperlinks) then paste into the wiki page and add the links and formatting last. Here is
a short podcast that explains what your wiki page should look like and how to make clickable links for your
references. MAKE SURE THAT YOU LOOK AT THE ATTACHED RUBRIC SO THAT YOU
UNDERSTAND HOW POINTS WILL BE AWARDED. Please ask me if you have any questions. If you are
having BB difficulties please contact the support people in CLSS office L2.73.10 NB during normal business hours
or send questions to [email protected] or call 212-237-8200.
TO CREATE YOUR WIKI ARTICLE – DO NOT USE THE CLASS WIKI (watch this podcast for more
information about how to access your personal wiki)
1)On the side panel in BB look for MY GROUPS – you will see -FINAL WIKI and your last name
2) Click on FINAL WIKI last name
3) Click on Group Wiki – this will bring you to your own personal WIKI – no other student will be able to see it
4) Paste in your entry from your word document (without hyperlinks). Then add the clickable links as directed
above.
If you choose to work with a partner please contact me and I will create a wiki link for you
Follow the directions above to access your wiki (it will have the names of all the group members).
If you are working with someone else you will each need to provide equal amounts of writing. This means you need
at least 4 sources (2 each) to back up what you say. I will also expect you to work together so that you edit each
other’s work. You cannot both be in the wiki at the same time so make sure you can coordinate this process so that
your editing works. I will be able to see exactly how much each person has contributed to the wiki.
Do not cite anything that you have not read. All sources (apart from pages in Kalat) should be accessible
via clickable links. When you create any link please make it a number. So the first citation/link will be [1] and
the second one will be [2] etc. Please provide a numbered list of your references (including any websites) in
APA format at the end of the wiki. You may not be familiar with citing websites and newspapers/magazines so
be sure to use this APA resource from the library for your reference list. I suggest that you create the document
first in word with numbered references (but no hyperlinks) then paste into the wiki page and add the links and
formatting last. Here is a short podcast that explains what your wiki page should look like and how
